The Rising Sun Development Center (RSDC) strengthens families by centering fathers as essential partners in child development, family stability, and community well-being. Our Father Engagement Program is designed to empower fathers—particularly those navigating systemic barriers—to be present, confident, and engaged caregivers. By combining education, advocacy, and relationship-building, RSDC addresses both the personal and structural challenges that limit fathers’ ability to fully participate in their children’s lives.
Through a strategic partnership with Fathers Matter Atlanta, RSDC provides fathers with education, tools, and guidance to navigate parenting, co-parenting, and the legal systems that impact family involvement. This work includes father-focused workshops, peer learning spaces, and one-on-one support that equips participants with practical knowledge while affirming their role and value within the family unit. Our approach emphasizes dignity, accountability, and empowerment rather than punishment or exclusion.
Beyond individual support, RSDC works alongside fathers to identify policy barriers and advocate for equitable solutions. Fathers are supported in learning how legislation, court practices, and social service policies affect their ability to remain active parents. Together, we engage with lawmakers and community stakeholders to elevate lived experience and push for policy changes that strengthen family reunification, parental rights, and fair access to resources. This dual approach ensures immediate impact while contributing to long-term systemic change.
In partnership with the Visionary Leadership Institute (VLI), RSDC implemented a father–child engagement initiative within a Head Start program to strengthen bonds during critical early development years. Fathers and children participated in activities designed to build connection, visibility, and pride—including the creation of personalized photobooks capturing meaningful moments together. These tangible keepsakes reinforced emotional connection while affirming fathers’ presence and importance in their children’s lives.
The program also established Father Advisory Groups at Head Start centers and hosted community events where fathers were publicly celebrated and honored. These efforts foster peer support, normalize father engagement, and build sustainable leadership within families and institutions. With continued funding, RSDC aims to expand this model—reaching more families, deepening advocacy efforts, and scaling father-centered programming that leads to improved child outcomes, stronger families, and more resilient communities.
